When I kissed my true love for the first time, she said, “Show me you care.” So I gave her my hand, she took it in hers and held it all through the night. In the morning she gave it back to me. It had gone cold, lifeless as it was; the blood had all drained out.
The second time I kissed my true love, she said, “Show me you’ll stay.” So I gave her my legs. She tossed them in the sea, it was fathomless like our love was fathomless, and they drowned along with all my worries and memories of pain.
The first time I lay with my true love, she said, “Show me you love me.” So I promised her my heart, and each night since she has eaten a little piece. With each piece that leaves me, my breath leaves me. Whisper by whisper, all the ways I love her and honor her and will never ever let her go.
